There will be a number of crops that would need to be grown. This will include crops such as corn, potatoes, and sugar. Some crops might have to be imported if the environment doesn’t support for growing those crops, but the idea will be to keep this to a minimum. Another issue is ethanol production. There is algae produced ethanol, and crop produced ethanol. While the water treatment system will produce algae produced ethanol, this may or may not be enough ethanol to serve the population. The goal is less reliance on fossil fuels. However, crop based ethanol is demanding on land space, and that land really should be devoted for human consumption crops, and therefore not compete. At first, it will be hard to meet with this demand, however as proper water treatment will take effect, then the crop based ethanol can be reduced.
Food Plus which is the national grocery store will be the primary buyer of fresh crops whereas companies will buy crops to produce frozen crops, and meals that one would be able to put in a microwave. Both channels will give the farmer the financial resources they will need to continue the crop farming. Since Food Plus will be the major buyer for fresh crops, they will be able to work with economies of scale, and make promises to buy a certain tonnage of crops. This will give the farmer some assurance. If the farm needs help in sustaining themselves, then the government can step in, and subsidize the farm.
Crops that are produced by the farm vs imported crop will have tariffs. In example, if Kaldan farms are able to produce corn, then corn imports will have tariffs. This is to help the Kaldan farmers to compete properly from countries with larger farms. However, any nutritional crop that is not produced by Kaldan farms will not be tariffed.
